Câmpulung Muscel – Golescu Villa

About the house

Villa Golescu is really close to the city center, yet located in a remote and peacefull neighbourhood. Here you can finally relax. The Villa is easy to reach from Bucharest, only 2 and a half hours away. The Villa is quiet and elegant, surrounded by an ocean of green. More precisely here you will find 4 hectares of garden, rare trees and carefully arranged vegetal landscapes.

History and heritage preservation play an important role in this villa, so you will spend your time near heritage furniture and other old objects. As it used to be a private house, it was designed as such; most of the bathrooms are located outside your room, very close though.

Villa Golescu was built at the beginning of the 20th century by Vasile Golescu, an engineer with a good taste for quality living and creative gardening. His daughters, Irina and Viorica Golescu, have donated the house to Pro Patrimonio foundation for safe keeping and good use. The house still retains a good deal of the old decoration, pieces of furniture and other personal objects of the family, so what you see now is pretty much how it was designed in the first place.

It doesn’t matter how many people are in your group, 2 or 7: you will have the entire house and garden to yourself. We will not rent the other rooms, yet you will only pay per person for the number of people in your group.

Golescu Villa in Câmpulung Muscel

This house used to be inhabited by people in the high society of Campulung Muscel and is pretty famous for its architectural style. The people of the city are proud of it and they actually regard it as a local landmark; when not rented by you, it can be visited like a museum.

Unlike many other national beautiful buildings belonging to old Romanian families, this villa survived communist times; it is now restored in an elegant, authentic fashion and in good shape for visits. If you have a family reunion, an idea for organizing an escape with close friends or a short get-together with fellow coworkers, Golescu Villa is quite an appropriate choice. Lucica’s cooking is something you will want to try.

Travelling from here to Brașov you will follow one of the most beautiful roads in Romania. You might want to plan some time to visit the area, as wandering through this less touristy part of Romania is rewarding.

Once you decide to see the surroundings of this neo-Romanian style manor and walk out of its courtyard populated with trees that are more than 100 years old, you should first go and check out the local market in Câmpulung Muscel. This is a place little affected by change in the last decades. Peasant are selling here seasonal fruits, delicious honey, fresh local cheese and a wide variety of seasonal vegetables. Then maybe go to Bran Castle. Whether you are into Bram Stocker’s story featuring Dracula or just want to see an old Transylvanian castle that is very well preserved, this place is worth visiting. The castle is dated in its actual form since 1377 and you might like the idea that 641 years later you can cherish a good cup of tea in their recently opened Tea House.
